Want To Live Like Animals…Free Like Animals

The title of today’s post comes from lyrics in “The Animal Song.” While I myself am content living life as a human being, I definitely believe that animals are our friends. My German Shepherd, Bella, is a companion, comfort, and absolute love!

These thoughts are floating in my mind due to of a blog sent to me this afternoon, which discusses “animal theme” jewelry and includes my 18 karat yellow gold turquoise flying bird necklace. You can find the article at http://gemgossip.com/2008/08/26/cute-critter-jewels/.

Animals are a prevalent theme in my jewelry for the main reason that they have great symbolic meaning in Native American culture. While the bird featured in the article (and pictured above) is made of gold, I have a passion for stone Native American fetish animals. My appreciation grew as I learned that each animal has specific healing powers. To name a few…a lion fetish is thought to scare off danger, a bear represents strength and self-knowledge, a butterfly stands for beauty, and a frog is considered the “fertility fetish.”

These little animal charms give us a dose of strength and sense of belief in our everyday lives. When wearing my fetish animal jewelry, I feel that I have a special friend helping me through the day!

Peace, Elisa
